KUGLUKTUK/COPPERMINE
The recreation department in Kugluktuk has been busy over the past few days trying to fix the mess left by some vandals after the community's recreation complex was broken into on April 25.

Recreation co-ordinator Jessica vanOverbeek said she found out the day after it happened as she was preparing to leave for Junior Super Soccer in Yellowknife.

"The staff that was here did a great job in getting everything cleaned up and we're working on getting the locks fixed because a lot of them were broken off," she said.

Photos of the damage were posted on Facebook. Those responsible didn't seem to leave any stone unturned, laying waste to the weight room, storage facility and the ice surface, which vanOverbeek said will now be out of commission for the rest of this season.

"There's plenty of holes in the ice and it's not worth fixing up," she said.

She said the facility is expected to re-open for business today, May 6.
