INUVIK
An Inuvik business owner is facing drug trafficking charges after Inuvik RCMP executed a search warrant on April 22 and found 18 pounds of marijuana packaged in bags, drug-related paraphernalia and a number of weapons.

Police said the seizure will go a long way to prevent crime.

"Drug seizures of this size will have an effect on reduction of incidents of assaults, thefts and other crimes," said RCMP Cpl. Barry Ledoux.

"This investigation is part of G Division's ongoing plan to combat illegal activities, to reduce crime and promote safe and secure communities within the Northwest Territories."

Police got a search warrant under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act as a result of an investigation, Ledoux said.

Charged with possession of marijuana for the purpose of trafficking is Timothy Hunter, 47, an Inuvik business owner.

Police said he has been released on his own recognizance and is expected to appear in territorial court in Inuvik on June 25.

Police are continuing to investigate and are asking members of the community with information about the illicit drug trade to contact police or call Crimestoppers.
