Chambers to talk mining spinoff at AGM
NWT Chamber of Commerce business conference kicks off Wednesday

Members of chambers of commerce across the territory will meet this week in Yellowknife for the 40th annual NWT Chamber of Commerce business conference and annual general meeting.

A panel including NWT and Nunavut Chamber of Mines executive director Tom Hoefer and a representative from Canadian Zinc Corporation, which is proposing the Deh Cho region Prairie Creek mine, is scheduled to present on mining in the North on the first day of the event Wednesday morning.

"Collectively, the panel has a fantastic story to tell about mining industry success and future investment and employment in the NWT," stated NWT Chamber of Commerce president Hughie Graham in a recent news release.

Highlighting the spinoff benefits of mining for small- and medium-sized enterprises, the chamber estimates for every job created in the mining industry,

four new jobs are created in other businesses and industries.

The Business Excellence Awards at the 40th annual chamber business conference are scheduled for Thursday evening at The Explorer Hotel with entertainment by Edmonton-based comedian Sean Lecomber.
