RCMP Cpl. Barry Ledoux said on April 3, the men drove a Ski-Doo pulling a sled full of alcohol they had purchased in Norman Wells to Tulita.

Acting on a tip, RCMP arrested the pair when they arrived in Tulita. In the sled, they found three cases of Vodka each containing 24 bottles. A subsequent search found another 25 bottles. All bottles contained 375 ml.

Ledoux said they will be charged with exceeding the limits of the town’s liquor restrictions.

In Tulita, it is illegal to possess more than three 375 ml bottles of hard liquor. The town has been under a restriction since November 2007.

Ledoux said the men will likely appear in court in May or June in Tulita.

Ledoux said while incidents such as this are not frequent, police and residents are always concerned when alcohol is brought into the community illegally.

“I wouldn’t say it’s a common problem, but it is a concern of the community and the RCMP,” he said.

Anyone with information about illegal alcohol is encouraged to contact the RCMP.
