Marijuana legalization rally planned
A community awareness event promoting the legalization of marijuana is scheduled to be held on April 20 at Somba K'e Park, according to organizer Kim MacNearney.
"The biggest push for me is to end the prohibition (of cannabis)," MacNearney said. "To threaten people with incarceration over a plant is really what I feel it boils down to and I think that whole regime needs to be rethought."
MacNearney plans to set up a large tent at the plaza near City Hall at 1 p.m., from which she will distribute information about medical marijuana laws in Canada.
The event, which MacNearney said will run from 1 to 4:20 p.m., includes a march at 1:30 p.m.

Lights extinguished as days grow longer
The "aesthetic lights" around city hall will be turned off before the end of the week, according to Grant White, director of community services.
As the days get longer, the dark blue lights are no longer needed, he added.
The city turned the blue lights on at city hall in November along with the white and multi-coloured Christmas lights, which were turned off around Chinese New Year in early February.
