Yesterday, the RCMP released images of the male suspect, taken from video footage obtained from a security camera at the gas bar. The images show a man dressed in dark clothing standing at the check-out counter moments before the robbery, which occurred around 7:30 a.m.

No weapon was used in the robbery, said RCMP Const. Dean Webb. The assailant allegedly punched the gas bar worker in the head to subdue him long enough to steal money from the cash register, he said.

The clerk was taken to the hospital, treated and released following the Jan. 3 incident.

Webb would not comment on how much money was taken from the till.

The police investigation into the robbery now hinges on whether the public can identify the suspect, said Webb.

"(We're hoping to) try and identify this male who is responsible for the robbery so he's not out there and able to do it again," he said. "Even though the pictures aren't the best (quality), in taking a look at them someone who knows who that person is should be able to identify him. So, whoever that person is who thinks they can identify him, they should be calling us."

Anyone who thinks they recognize the suspect should contact the Yellowknife RCMP Detachment or, if they wish to remain anonymous, phone Crime Stoppers.
