Suspects in stabbing held in custody One of five accused released; additional court appearances scheduled for later this weekKatherine Hudson Northern News Services Published Wednesday, December 12, 2012
Nancy Ruben, 38, charged with aggravated assault, was allowed to walk out of the Yellowknife Courthouse on Dec. 6 with several conditions such as to not contact the 44-year-old complainant or the others accused in the incident. A 17-year-old male youth is also charged with attempted murder while three other individuals - Tyson Ruben-Bucher, 18; Dean Ruben, 22; and another 17-year-old male youth - are charged with attempted murder. Nancy Ruben sat at the defence table wearing a red T-shirt, her black hair hanging to her chin. She held a tissue to her eyes and nose, weeping and sniffling while the allegations were read out. Her next court date is Jan. 15 when she will elect how she would like to be tried. Tyson Ruben-Bucher, wearing an orange long-sleeved shirt, was in territorial court on Monday. Judge Garth Malakoe read an additional charge to him, that on Nov. 14 Ruben-Bucher is alleged to have not reported to a bail supervisor. Ruben-Boucher is scheduled to appear in court again today in relation to the attempted murder charge, as well as an unrelated charge of sexual assault in March and a charge for alleged drug trafficking also from March. Dean Ruben appeared in court yesterday, wearing a green T-shirt and grey sweatpants. He sat hunched in the prisoners' box, yawning and muttering while his matter was postponed until tomorrow so he can have an opportunity to speak with his lawyer. The two 17-year-olds charged in relation to this crime cannot be named in accordance with the Youth Criminal Justice Act. The police are not releasing many details on the incident, which occurred in the early morning hours of Nov. 29 on the first-floor of Fort Gary apartments on Gitzel Street. The victim sustained multiple stab wounds to the torso, according to RCMP. The police have said this was not a random incident and there is no concern for public safety.
