Amos, 28, has lived in Sachs Harbour most of her life. She has two sons, Lennox, 6, and Layton, 5, and a daughter, Lacey, 4.

When it starts getting cold, Amos fashions warm winter gear for her family.

"I recently made my son sealskin mitts with strings and sealskin mukluks with moosehide on the bottom. I made my daughter rabbit mitts with strings as well," she said.

Amos, who works part-time, attends sewing class twice a week, on Wednesdays and Saturdays, through the Sachs Harbour Community Corporation. About eight to 10 people in the community attend the classes, where they can get help with their projects.

"We have an instructor there at class. She's an elder from the community. My first project was sealskin mitts with fox fur. I am now working on a pair of mitts for a little boy," said Amos.

Amos also made ookpiks - snowy owl figures - for her children and her friend's child, and she is setting her sights on other projects.

"I've never made fur gloves or a hat that I want to," she said.

It appears the sewing skills are already being passed from mother to daughter. Lacey likes to watch her mom sew and recently shared her future plans when she said to her mother, "I am going to sew like you when I am big."
