As of Dec. 1, First Air's Yellowknife Boeing 737 pilots will all be based out of Edmonton.

The company decided to consolidate its western Boeing 737 pilot operations in Edmonton after determining "that more efficient and effective scheduling could be achieved with a single pilot base in the western region," stated Jennifer Alldred, First Air's manager of marketing communications, in a prepared statement.

She said some pilot positions will be relocated to Edmonton, but this base change decision for the Boeing 737 pilots does not have any impact on First Air's Yellowknife-based flight attendants, Hercules aircraft flight crew members, or pilots for any of the company's other aircraft.

First Air has seven Boeing 737 jets - two based in Edmonton and one in Yellowknife.

The company could not be reached for comment regarding how many pilot positions will be moved to Edmonton by press deadline.

First Air's regional office and maintenance base in Yellowknife will continue to operate as usual, stated Alldred.

First Air operates a fleet of aircraft from Yellowknife for regularly scheduled passenger and air cargo services.

Its fleet consists of Boeing 737, Hercules, and ATR turbo prop aircraft.
