LIIDLII KUE/FORT SIMPSON
The seven candidates nominated for positions on the district education authority (DEA) will be running in the election after all.

In the Sept. 27 issue of Deh Cho Drum it was reported that the DEA candidates – Martina Norwegian, Tanya Klassen, Rock Matte, Dennis Nelner, Mary Isaiah, Elizabeth Hardisty and Marion Storm – had been acclaimed.

Misinformation the result of communication issue

However, this is not the case. The misinformation was the result of a communication issue between the village of Fort Simpson and the Department of Education. The village had been directed to the 1996 Fort Simpson education district and Fort Simpson district education authority regulations, which reads seven members may be elected to the Fort Simpson DEA. Instead, it should have been referred to the most recent act, which states that six members may be elected to the DEA and one member may be appointed by the council of the village of Fort Simpson and another by the Liidlii Kue First Nation.

Sebastien Goyer, senior administrative officer, said the mistake was not made in malice.

"It's a simple error but it's a big error. We will have to notify every candidate now who ran just to let them know of the error," he said. "We're going to have to go through the process."
