INUVIK
The RCMP is still investigating the alleged afternoon swarming of a man by a group of youth unknown to the victim.

"It happened on Oct. 6, and members attended the scene," said Staff Sgt. Jerry McKenna.

"He seemed to be all right, but his wife convinced him to go to the hospital and from there, he was medevaced to Edmonton."

The complainant had his jaw broken, underwent surgery and spent a total of 10 days in the hospital.

"Members have been keeping in contact with him and his wife," said McKenna.

"He originally said he didn't know anyone involved and we're still investigating. We'll be looking for any information from the public."

It's high priority for the RCMP, said McKenna.

"On our scale, personal injuries or assaults are extremely serious, maybe by next week we'll have more information."

RCMP busy

October has been a busy month for the Inuvik RCMP Detachment. Break and enter charges have been laid in four separate incidents, one being the break-in at the Inuvik Food Bank.

All four cases involved youths 16 or under, and two of the 16-year-olds have been remanded into custody, according to McKenna.

RCMP members also caught a 53-year-old man with $10,000 worth of marijuana.

Mckenna said the man was charged with possession for the purpose of trafficking.

"His court date won't be until December, at the earliest."
