Former NWT premier Floyd Roland rolled to a 527-145 mayoral election victory over sole opponent Todd Shattler in Inuvik Monday.

Roland, who hails from Inuvik, told Inuvik Drum that he has built a strong network among community groups and that his political experience would be an asset.

He said the cost of living is the most pressing issue facing the community.

Shattler, a political newcomer, was best known to some voters as the man who has a mineral claim near the Inuvik dump that wound up becoming a court case over jurisdictional issues.

Election results for council are yet to be made public.
