The snow held off long enough for one more street hockey match on Friday. Taking over the main parking lot outside the campus, bright orange pucks and balls were flung around.

The most recent challengers were players from the Inuvik Youth Centre and what they lacked in size they made up for in sheer numbers.

"We had to split the teams," said Mickey Ipana, one of the Aurora College players. "We couldn't just have college students on one side; it wouldn't have been fair."

The college has previously faced off against the Inuvialuit Regional Corporation. Scheduled in the coming weeks are First Air and Mackenzie Valley Construction.

Garrett Ruben has been playing on the Aurora College side since the beginning. The turnout varies a lot, said Ruben as he waited his turn to play.

"It's a long weekend, so a lot of people are out of town or busy with family," he said. "Usually we'll play against a challenging company, but it's fun to get out and at least we're getting the kids active."

Instead of officially keeping score, the game continued until, one by one, players trickled away to get warm.

"There's usually games inside after but I guess everyone got tired," said Ipana. "Hockey lasted longer than usual."
