Carrie was nominated by teachers at Weledeh Catholic School to have the chance to spend 10 days -- from July 29 to Aug. 7 -- at the Tim Hortons Kananaskis ranch in southern Alberta. According to the Tim Hortons website, children are selected through referrals from local community organizations.

The Grade 6 student was excited to find she was selected, but isn't quite sure why she was.

"I don't know. I guess I'm special," she said.

Her father, Dominic, said it was probably because of how helpful she is with her teachers and in the classroom.

A fact Carrie acknowledged with a modest nod.

Her 10 days were filled with horseback riding, white-water rafting, rock climbing, swimming, archery and getting to know other campers from all over the country.

If that wasn't enough, Carrie also earned badges for the tidiest room, the best behaviour and helping the supervisors.

"I love horseback riding," she said. "I learnt to take part in a lot of things and making friends."

With the backdrop of the Rocky Mountains, she added that it "was a wonderful place to be."

The trip was all-expenses-paid courtesy of the coffee giant.

"I'm so happy she got the chance to go," Dominic said.

"Thank you to the teachers that nominated her."

Madison brought back an armful of goodies, including a sleeping bag, camera and hockey bag.

A message to future campers from Madison?

"I know they are going to have fun."

Tim Hortons summer camps offer year-round programming and are run by the Tim Hortons Children's Foundation. Funding for the programs come mostly for donations made in Tim Hortons restaurants.

Camps are also located in St. George, Ont., Parry Sound, Ont., Quyon Que., Tatamagouche, N. S., and Kentucky.
