SOMBA K'E/YELLOWKNIFE
Yellowknife commercial fisherman Brian Abbott pleaded guilty Tuesday to three of the eight counts against him under the Fisheries Act.

The owner/operator of Great Slave Fish Products Ltd. on Jolliffe Island, who was not present in territorial court Tuesday afternoon, pleaded guilty to three counts under Section 78 of the Fisheries Act.

The first count corresponds to an incident on July 29, 2011 where a commercial harvest logbook was not being filled out accurately and completely on a daily basis while Abbott was fishing on Great Slave Lake and two other smaller lakes.

The other guilty pleas correspond to Aug. 11, 2011 whereby Abbott was operating a vessel on Great Slave Lake without proper registration.

On the same day, Abbott was charged with fishing commercially in a restricted area in Yellowknife Bay.

No pleas have been entered for the remaining five charges under the Fisheries Act.

The facts and sentencing is scheduled for July 9 at 1:30 p.m.
