A Yellowknife woman is in hospital after she was assaulted in a Northern Property management office Monday.

The 44-year-old was attacked by a male individual in her office on 49 Street between 5:30 a.m. and 7:30 a.m., according to RCMP Const. Kathy Law. She was later found unconscious by a co-worker.

"We don't know if it was a random attack or if it was planned. It's hard for us to say," said Law yesterday.

The woman was taken to Stanton Territorial Hospital to treat injuries she sustained during the attack. She remains in hospital. Law declined to disclose the extent of the woman's injuries.

Law said residents should take precautions if they are working early hours or late at night.

"Ensure that the doors are locked to the building, that somebody knows where you're going to be, that you walk to and from work with somebody else if possible."

Police are asking residents with any information on the attack to contact the Yellowknife RCMP Detachment at 669-5200 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
