Sahtu signs on

Ethel Blondin-Andrew, chairperson of the Sahtu Secretariat Incorporated, signed the NWT Lands and Resources Devolution Agreement-in-Principle (AIP) yesterday.

Blondin-Andrew signed the agreement on behalf of the Sahtu, which is the first Dene government to sign the agreement.

Devolution would give the NWT more power and control over land and resources. In Premier Bob McLeod's public mandate, one of his stated goals for the current legislative session is to "negotiate a Devolution Final Agreement and develop an implementation plan for responsible management of lands and resources in the NWT."
