A quick response helped Iqaluit fire department prevent a shed fire behind house 2017C from spreading Friday afternoon.

"It completely destroyed the shed," acting fire chief Blaine Wiggins said. "It was fully involved when we got here. A couple more minutes, and it would have lent itself to everything around it, including the building itself."

The four-plex at 2017C is private staff housing. The unit adjacent to the shed was under repair due to a previous fire.

Wiggins said an extension cord to the shed played a role, and there was a Coleman stove found inside.

Two men were taken away in handcuffs but are not likely to be charged in connection with the fire, as RCMP don't believe it was started intentionally.
