The Government of Canada and the Nunavut Resources Corporation (NRC) are contributing a combined $5.6 million to capitalize a new investment fund which will support Inuit participation in major natural resource projects in Nunavut.

"This investment demonstrates our government's commitment to increase Inuit participation in the Canadian economy," stated John Duncan, minister of Aboriginal Affairs and Northern Development. "With the creation of this fund, more Inuit will have an opportunity to play a leading role in harnessing and developing the natural resources of Nunavut."

More Inuit involvement in major natural resource projects will provide the Inuit population with better employment opportunities and greater economic benefits.

The Nunavut Resources Corporation, developed by the Kitikmeot Inuit Association in 2010 to negotiate commercial partnerships, will be responsible for managing the fund.
