'Pumped' about new games Darrell Greer Northern News Services Published Wednesday, April 18, 2012
The centre also took receipt of new equipment for the kids two weeks ago, with the arrival of a pool table and foosball game. Rankin community economic development officer Evan Morrison said funding for the equipment and renovations came from the Department of Health and Social Services through the Brighter Futures program. He said the centre received $15,000 to upgrade the facility. "The centre was really in need of some new recreational gear because they were, pretty much, down to a ping-pong table and that's starting to break down," said Morrison. "The kids have been wanting new equipment for quite a while now. "They're really pumped over the pool table and foosball game, and they're already talking about holding pool tournaments. "The other upgrades to the facility include getting some painting done, some new light fixtures being installed and having a few damaged areas fixed." The drop-in centre staff and the kids who use the facility on a regular basis had input into what rec equipment would be purchased. Morrison said the kids had been clamouring for a pool table for a very long time. He said after he went over to talk to the centre's co-ordinator, Molly Aggark, he was left with no doubt in his mind that the pool table and foosball game would be big hits with the kids. "Both of the tables are in place and Curley Construction should be finishing up the renovations this week. "Every time I've dropped by the drop-in centre to see how things are going, the kids have been at both games. "I was actually surprised by how good the pool table was when I first saw it. "I ordered it through Arctic Connections in Winnipeg and Jim Ramsay and his staff did a great job with it."
