IQALUIT
Residents of Iqaluit are invited to tell their stories about how they feel about Iqaluit today, and those comments will be used to develop a sustainability plan for the city.

"Everybody wants to move us forward toward a better future, which is exactly where we need to be," sustainability co-ordinator Robyn Campbell said, describing feedback from the first stage, which was to gather input from municipal workers.

"We had some interesting responses with people being very willing to open up and tell us their stories about what they really appreciate about the community today, what changes they would make to make Iqaluit better, and how they would contribute to make the community more sustainable," Campbell said.

Sustainability encompasses many aspects of life in the city, including sustaining the environment, family and social well-being, and a productive society.

"A sustainability plan looks into the future," she said. "It looks to guide us in making good decisions for our future, for the overall well-being of our community. It's an overarching plan that looks at the community from a high level."

Residents are asked to submit comments on paper, through the Sustainable Iqaluit website, by voicemail or in person. Submissions can be made in English, Inuktitut or French.

Comments will be compiled with the results of 30 documents detailing the results of previous engagement efforts.

The city will actively pursue comments until the end of April, and present a draft plan in the fall. The final plan is expected some time in 2013.
