Police cordoned off Dagenais Drive at Finlayson Drive in Yellowknife this evening. There have been unconfirmed reports of a shot or shots fired. There may be an ongoing hostage situation. Police are not letting anyone into the area, although they did allow at least one resident to leave.

The resident, who does not want to be named, told Yellowknifer that he saw a police SWAT team on the street. After he left his house, one of the officers told him to hurry up and run, he said. An ambulance left the scene at about 6:45 p.m., and at least three RCMP vehicles are still on the scene on Dagenais Drive surrounding the entrance to Glick Court. Nearby resident Polo Gil said he has seen police in the area all day.

Witnesses can see what looks like a black cloth jacket with a red bag beside it in the street on Dagenais Drive.
