IGLULIK
Paul Quassa is back on the Iglulik municipal council after he won the Feb. 23 by-election.

Quassa was elected councillor for a two-year term with 48 votes, assistant senior administrative officer Celestino Uyarak said.

He added Neeve Uttak got 43 votes, Celina Irngaut got 24, Eric Nutarariaq got five and Rhoda Qanatsiaq got 37.

Some 158 voters, or about 20 per cent, turned out for the election out of 803 eligible voters. One ballot was spoiled.

The by-election was necessary after councillor-elect Guy Makkik passed away Dec. 25 before taking office.

He had been elected during the Dec. 12 municipal elections.
