The Government of the Northwest Territories has been named one of Canada's best diversity employers.

The recognition comes after the GNWT was also named one of Canada's Top 100 Employers for 2013 by competition manager Mediacorp Canada Inc.

"Being chosen as one of Canada's Best Diversity Employers is a testament to the importance the GNWT places on a public service that reflects the diverse make-up of the North," said Human Resources Minister Glen Abernethy in the legislative assembly on Feb. 19.

Out of 10 new managers hired within the past two years, five are indigenous aboriginal persons, Abernethy added.
