Sarah's Hot and Ready opened earlier this month inside Breakaway Fitness. The new venue features the culinary creations of first-time restaurateur Sarah Heaton.

"It's just hot and ready to go," Heaton said, explaining the practicality of the eatery's name. "It's basically going to be a hot sandwich, hot soup, a hot meal of some sort, done from scratch, basically. Just like a homecooked meal, like what your mom would have made."

Aiming to add variety to the city's food scene, Heaton changes her menu items regularly, with offerings so far ranging from pulled pork sandwiches to Hungarian goulash, and a Spanakopita that sold out in 25 minutes. Soup offerings have included mushroom soup, leek and potatoes, and a Tanzanian fish soup.

Heaton tries to accommodate different dietary options as well, such as vegetarian, gluten-free and dairy-free menu items.

One thing you will not find on the menu, is burgers and fries.

"It's not your typical food place. It's a sort of high-end market yet very practical and very fast," said husband Paul Vecsei, who has enjoyed Hot and Ready meals at home for several years.

While Hot and Ready does have seating for at least nine diners, the vision for Breakaway Fitness business owner Kelly Robertson was a simple lunch counter with good, healthy food, reminiscent of a former popular restaurant, The Split Pea.

Hot and Ready has met and surpassed her expectations.

"It's delicious," Robertson said.

Sarah's Hot and Ready is open to the general public on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
