Grade 1-2 teacher Crystal Jedrzejewski initiated the Countdown to Christmas program, which invited parents into the school to participate in activities during November and December, said principal Blair Hagman.

Each week's activities were based on a different theme and involved a variety of learning methods, such as singing and doing arts and crafts. Everyone also enjoyed a healthy snack.

One week's theme was gingerbread people, and students and parents sang songs, read stories and created their own gingerbread people out of paper.

The program's goals are to promote parental involvement at the school and promote education at home, as well as giving parents a chance to enjoy activities with their kids. Hagman said two parents from the community are also scheduled to lead a similar program at the school in the spring.
