Number of unemployed down in both territories

NORTHWEST TERRITORIES AND NUNAVUT
The number of people receiving employment insurance (EI) benefits went down in Nunavut and the Northwest Territories in May 2012 compared to May last year, according to preliminary figures released by Statistics Canada on July 19.

In May, 900 men and women received regular benefits in the NWT compared to 980 in May 2011, representing a decrease of 8.2 per cent.

The number of people receiving regular EI benefits in Nunavut was 520 in May 2012, compared to 560 last year, down 7.1 per cent.

The number of people receiving regular EI benefits across the country also decreased in May 2012 compared to May 2011, by 13.6 per cent, to 541,750 to 468,050 in May 2012.
