Lights went out
Electricity was disrupted to parts of Yellowknife Monday evening after an equipment failure with a Northland Utilities substation.
The outage, which happened around 8 p.m. and lasted about an hour, affected residents in Niven Lake, part of the downtown core and areas at the Yellowknife airport.
"We have isolated the problem so there will be no (more) outages as a result of it but we are continuing to investigate it," said Lori Burrill, supervisor of customer service and administration at Northland.
A power outage on Sunday, from 6:50 a.m. to 6:59 a.m., was caused by a lightning strike on the Bluefish line, said Bob Kelly, spokesperson for the Northwest Territories Power Corporation.

Residents who use space on shore at the Department of Fisheries and Oceans Old Town wharf, commonly referred to as the "government dock," will have to make alternate arrangements within the next month.
The City of Yellowknife has negotiated a 50-year lease with the federal government for the land adjacent to Yellowknife Bay.
In a news release, the city stated that it will place notices on stored items on the property on Sept. 4. Items not removed by Sept. 20 will be towed at the owners' expense.
DFO will be completing environmental remediation work on the lot, which is scheduled to be completed within the month of September.
