Woman jailed four months for drunk driving Miranda Scotland Northern News Services Published Friday, Aug 10, 2012
Jessica Klengenberg was arrested on May 6 at about 2:30 p.m. after RCMP received a complaint that she was drinking and driving. Klengenberg was convicted of operating a vehicle while impaired, breach of probation and driving without a licence. She was then involved in another drinking and driving incident five days after the first. This time she was arrested after RCMP received complaints of an intoxicated driver swerving in and out of traffic on the Ingraham Trail at about 4 p.m. In relation to that incident, she was convicted of operating a vehicle while impaired. When given a chance to speak in court, Klengenberg expressed remorse for her actions. "I know I did wrong and I'm sorry," she told Chief Judge Robert Gorin. Although these were Klengenberg's first and second convictions for driving while impaired, she has an extensive three-page criminal record, which the judge took into account when he made his ruling. Most of her previous convictions were for not following court conditions. Gorin sentenced her to two months in jail for each incident and banned her from driving for three years. He also ruled that Klengenberg would have to pay for damages to one of the cars she hit, which was estimated at $4,051.06 - providing that she finds a job in the future. The other two cars sustained very little damage, according to Crown prosecutor Jen Bond. Man accused of aggravated assault, shoplifting pleads not guilty A man accused of shoving a 62-year-old woman out of his way after allegedly shoplifting from the downtown Extra Foods has pleaded not guilty to the charges against him. Jacob Scott Griep, 28, who appeared in court by video on Tuesday afternoon, is charged with aggravated assault, shoplifting and breach of probation for the April 24 incident. Griep's trial is set for Oct. 16. Break-in sentencing delayed The case against Eric Wardell, involving a charge of breaking and entering into a retail store on Franklin Avenue in May, was delayed Tuesday after a request from the defence lawyer. Wardell's case, who pleaded guilty to breaking into Headgear, was set for facts and sentence. Defence lawyer Charles Davison asked that the case be adjourned so that corrections could be made to the pre-sentence report. Such a report gives the judge background on a person's history and character. Judge Christine Gagnon granted Davison's request. Facts and sentencing were scheduled for Sept. 4.
