Salt River First Nation asserts independence
Lyndsay Herman Northern News Services Published Monday, June 25, 2012
"The membership voted to withdraw from Akaitcho as they felt that they were no longer representing the best interests of Salt River First Nation and that the time had arrived that we were mature enough as a government to go out on our own," states David Poitras, chief of the Salt River First Nation in a news release. "We wish our colleagues and friends in Akaitcho our best wishes as they move forward into their future." The Akaitcho Tribal Government deferred all comments to the Salt River First Nation, who were unable to respond further before press deadline.
