Kimmirut's hamlet council will meet Wednesday to decide whether senior administrative officer Akeego Ikkidluak should be removed from her position.

Councillors will meet at 1 p.m., according to a public notice posted in the community, to discuss six reasons for Ikkidluak's removal.

Ikkidluak would not comment on the matter, nor would Mayor Qinuayuaq Pudlat, who said he has a conflict of interest. Other councillors approached also refused comment.

More drugs shipped inside TVs

KINNGAIT/CAPE DORSET
Two people who allegedly had marijuana shipped to Cape Dorset concealed inside two TVs are now facing trafficking charges.

Cape Dorset RCMP seized about 346 grams of marijuana from a residence on March 30, with the investigation determining the drug seized was shipped to the community concealed inside two TVs, the RCMP press release states, adding is the second known shipment of marijuana concealed inside TVs in the past five weeks.

"This is another example of how drug traffickers attempt to avoid detection from police to get their product to remote Nunavut communities," stated Const. Ian Allen in the release. "This amount of marijuana could produce between 692 and 1,730 marijuana cigarettes."

According to police, marijuana sells for $60 a gram in Cape Dorset, and the estimated street value of the seizure exceeds $20,000. Two people have both been charged with possession of drugs for the purpose of trafficking and are scheduled to appear in court on May 7 in Cape Dorset.
