Contaminated meat warning expanded
Yellowknife residents are advised not to consume certain ground meat products because they may be contaminated with E. Coli O157:H7.

Daffodil Days a success
It may have been blowing snow outside but Yellowknife offices were blooming with daffodils this week following a successful Canadian Cancer Society campaign. Not only has the community shown support by purchasing the sunshine-yellow bouquets but businesses have donated space and coolers to keep them fresh, said Lorna Deveau, revenue development and volunteer resources co-ordinator for the Canadian Cancer Society. "The management of the upper level of Centre Square Mall has been great," said Deveau. Daffodil Days continues at the mall, Stanton Territorial Hospital, Extra Foods on Old Airport Road and Wal-Mart but Deveau said stock is running low.

New land purchased
Yellowknife Catholic Schools finalized the purchase of a piece of land between St. Patrick High School and Franklin Avenue, the board announced at its Monday meeting. The board borrowed from the GNWT to make the $1.41-million purchase, said assistant superintendent of business Mike Huvenaars, and expects to repay it with interest within 20 years. The school district has modular classrooms on a part of the parcel it was renting for $48,000 per year, he said. "We really have no other room to grow," he said.
