Happy newlyweds share their stories Kevin Allerston Northern News Services Published Wednesday, February 8, 2012
That's one thing Amanda Epp and Darcy Lansdown learned when they tied the knot on July 23. The two, who celebrated their 14th year as a couple on Feb. 3, had just tied the knot at Prelude Lake and were getting ready to have their photos taken when a black bear was reported in the area. "We ended up having to leave the photography location because a bear was actually in the area," said Epp. "Somebody who was at a cabin around the corner from where we were came out and told some of the people - and not me because they were worried that I might panic - that a bear had come out from around the corner. "It was a good fit for us to do it outside. Originally we wanted to do it on one of the islands on Great Slave, but logistically, that was a nightmare, so we went for sort of the next best thing which still included rock, lake and tree," said Epp. As for how things have been going since, the two are happy together and say little has changed. "Well, we've been together forever, and actually today (Feb. 3) is our 14th anniversary together, we were kind of high school sweethearts, so not a lot's changed for us," said Lansdown. "I wouldn't say anything's drastically different, we've lived together for eight years. But of course, it is a little bit different. We're more official in some ways," Lansdown's wife said. For Lisa and Daniel Zoe, their wedding in Maui on March 3 was the culmination of a long relationship. "Well, we have four children, so it's just kind of completed our family." said Lisa. "Well, it's a little different now ... it's hard to explain, but it's good, we're really happy," said Daniel. Kelley and Blair Durnford got married in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic, and Blair has some advice for other Yellowknifers planning a wedding. "I would recommend anybody getting married to get married in town first before they go, because doing all the paperwork was a pretty big hassle," Blair said.
