Stanton Hospital's first baby comes on grandparents' 27th wedding anniversary

Shelley Goulet was quiet but comforting as she held her first child this week at Stanton Territorial Hospital. The new mother gave birth to a nine pound, 11 ounce, black-haired boy on Sunday. The delivery came at 1:52 p.m., making it the hospital's first baby born in 2012.

While it was still too early to provide a name for the child, the family said they are working on it together. The boy's father had not seen the baby when Yellowknifer paid a visit Monday was not on hand for a comment. Goulet said she was very satisfied about the experience and the delivery.

"It's exciting," she simply said, but was otherwise very quiet Monday.

Grandfather and grandmother Eddie and Bertha Goulet said they were very happy with the delivery.

"I was happy and very excited," said Eddie. He said the new addition had a double effect on him and his wife as it happened to came on the couple's 27th wedding anniversary.

"This was definitely our best anniversary present," Bertha said with a laugh. "When they told us it was a boy, we were so happy. (Shelley) and I were just crying."

Bertha and Eddie's said this was their third grandchild. The baby's seven-year-old cousin Quaid Goulet was in the room playing with an iPad and offering Shelley additional company.

The family said they were grateful for the assistance that all hospital staff offered in the delivery of the new boy.

"They were very helpful," Eddie said. "Everyone who helped deliver her."

Shelley said she and her new son anticipate going home by the end of the week.
