IQALUIT
An Iqaluit teen faces several charges after a shootout with police on Nov. 23 left the shooter and another man needing medical attention.

The teen, who cannot be named as he is under 18, faces two counts of assaulting a peace officer with a firearm, one weapons possession charge, and several other probation-related charges. Nunavut News/North was unable to contact police to find out the youth's age and next court date by press time.

The confrontation happened in the early hours of Nov. 23 after police responded to a call and arrived to find a man pointing a gun at them. Gunfire ensued.

The shooter was taken to hospital with gunshot wounds to the chest. A new Iqaluit resident, Arthur Wilson, was caught in the crossfire. He needed staples to seal a wound on his scalp after he was grazed by a stray bullet while sleeping.

Police from Ottawa and the NWT are investigating the incident as it involved police fire.
