"The right gear leg failed on landing," Kenn Borek Air president John Harmer said, noting it looked like a hard landing.

"The gear turned sideways, and the tire was wrecked," he said.

The parts to repair the plane, which remained at the end of the runway, were expected to arrive Dec. 8.

No other planes had been able to land since the incident.

The pilots were hoping to find a way to move the plane off the end of the runway, possibly involving a qamutiik under the broken landing gear, RCMP Const. Denis Lambe said.

"They're trying to MacGyver something with straps to get a makeshift sled underneath to tow it out of the way," he said Dec. 8.

The cause of the incident is being investigated.
