NUNAVUT
Seven people have been named to the inaugural Nunavut Housing Corporation's board of directors.

The newly-created board - chaired by Eugene Lysy, who has more than 20 years of experience working in senior positions in both the private and public sectors in all three territories - will oversee the corporation's operation.

He will be joined by Jack Anawak, former MP for Nunatsiaq (now the federal Nunavut riding) and former interim Nunavut commissioner, who will serve as the vice-chairman.

The other five members are Kathleen Gomez from Iqaluit, Vicki Aitaok from Cambridge Bay, Bob Leonard from

Arviat, Gordon MacPherson and Ross Mrazek, who has served on the Qulliq Energy Board and worked for the GN and the GNWT before division. Although getting a board was a step in the right direction for the corporation, it is only the beginning, stated Tagak Curley, the minister responsible for the corporation, in the legislative assembly on Oct. 28.

"In addition to strengthening its governance structure, establishing a board of directors represents a fundamental change to the structure of the Nunavut Housing Corporation," stated Curley in a press release.

"Each board member brings a unique skill set to the corporation and this will ensure the NHC can adequately concentrate on the most effective way to access much-needed investments to address Nunavut's housing crisis."
