Construction continues
More roads are set to close, according to the city.
Con Road will be closed to through-traffic between 54 Street and Rycon Drive beginning tomorrow. Due to water and sewer upgrades, construction will continue on Lamoureux Road and extend onto Range Lake Road tomorrow. Traffic will be limited to one lane until July 31.

Council, interrupted
Monday's city council meetings were rescheduled thanks to lack of attendance. Just three councillors and Mayor Mark Heyck attended the municipal services committee meeting on Monday, not enough to reach the minimum quorum of five council members.
Items on the committee agenda were also rescheduled, and recommendations to administration could not be made on items that were heard. The special meetings have been rescheduled to today at noon, with the council meeting tonight at 7 p.m.

Communities not at risk of fire in NWT
With two months until the official end of fire season, no communities are currently at risk in the NWT.
To date there have been 133 fires in the territory affecting 1,783 square kilometres. Richard Olsen, manager of fire operations for the NWT, said in a briefing Monday the number of fires is higher than last year yet lower than the 20-year average. In the North Slave region, there are two fires the government says are of note: a .008 square kilometre fire near Hamilton Bay and a .03 square kilometre fire close to Blachford Lake Lodge. Residents of Yellowknife may also notice smoke from fires in the Wekweeti area.

Hundreds hop on for Parks Day
Kangiqliniq/Rankin Inlet
Nunavut's Parks and Special Places division saw around 150 people join together at the Elders Cabins just outside of Rankin Inlet to celebrate Parks Day on July 15.
The afternoon included a cook-out, games for elders, adults and children and a talk by elder Jack Kabvitok about hunting grounds.
David Beamer, acting manager for Parks Operations and Facilities, said this was the first year Nunavut Parks and Special Places offered a bus services for people who wanted to attend but didn't have a ride.
"This was our biggest Parks Day by far," he said.
Even the caribou came out for the party, migrating across the road as the afternoon wound to a close.
Beamer said Nunavut Parks and Special Places also held a drawing contest this year with children from the day camp. Two drawings were selected as winners.
