Yellowknifer was at the Prelude Lake Territorial Park boat launch as the victim was brought to shore. Paramedics took the Yellowknife Fire Department Zodiac inflatable boat to the island at about 3 a.m. to bring the victim back to shore and on to Stanton Territorial Hospital for treatment of an apparent head wound.

RCMP went to the island on a separate boat and did not accompany the victim back to shore.

In an e-mail to Yellowknifer, RCMP spokesperson Marie York-Condon stated the accused and the victim were camping on the island at the time.

She stated a weapon was used in the attack but would not say what kind of weapon.

"A male was allegedly assaulted with a weapon of opportunity, resulting in serious injury," she stated.

"We cannot release description of weapon at this time, however, can confirm it was not a firearm."

York-Condon did not state whether the weapon had been recovered.

The man's head was bandaged when he reached the boat launch. His condition has not been released.

Yellowknife resident Daniel Hache, 21, has been released for a court appearance on Aug. 8.
