In Pangnirtung, firefighters and RCMP responded to a house fire at approximately 9:30 p.m.

"The fire destroyed the unit as well as caused smoke damage to the adjoining units. No one was inside the unit at the time of the fire," stated RCMP Cpl. Bryan Bowskill in a news release.

Approximately an hour later, the alarm sounded in Pond Inlet.

"The fire destroyed the building which was made up of two separate units. No one was inside at the time of the fire," said Bowskill.

"Police are working with the Pond Inlet Fire Department in order to establish a cause of the fire and if foul play was involved. The investigation regarding this incident is ongoing."

One person was taken into custody in Pang after RCMP and the fire department established arson as the cause.
