On Feb. 3, a car struck the Scotia Centre on Franklin Avenue, causing approximately $250,000 in damages.

Darin Benoit, property manager for Dream Management, owners of the Scotia Centre in downtown Yellowknife, said engineers were called in after the crash to make sure the building was structurally safe.

He said contractors have had some difficulty finding bricks that match the 40-year-old building.

"I don't know if the driver meant to leave a permanent mark on the building, but he has," said Benoit. He added that it may be a matter of weeks yet before repairs are completed.

No businesses have been adversely affected.

Benoit said he has not heard from RCMP about possible charges.

In a news release dated Feb. 3, the Mounties stated they were investigating after a vehicle crossed the centre line on Franklin Avenue and struck the building at 1 a.m. that morning.

Police stated the driver, who they did not name, was taken to Stanton Territorial Hospital for medical assessment.

In an a March 1 e-mail, RCMP stated the matter is still under investigation and there are no further updates.
