Search continues for missing hunter

A desperate search continues for a hunter missing near McKay Lake, about 350 kilometres northeast of Yellowknife. In a news release, RCMP stated Antoine Betsidea, 46, was with several other hunters on the Tibbitt-to-Contwoyto Winter Road on Sunday when he became separated from his hunting party. He was last seen on a snowmobile about 3 p.m. that day. RCMP is working with its search and rescue co-ordinator as well as Civil Aviation Search and Rescue in consultation with Yellowknife Ground Search and Rescue. They are using aircraft but added weather has been a factor.

Illegal hunting trial postponed

The search for a missing hunter north of Yellowknife has led to the postponement of an illegal hunting trial in Yellowknife. Former Ndilo chief Ted Tsetta was to go on trial today after he was charged in February 2014 with hunting caribou without a wildlife tag. However, Tsetta asked for an adjournment in Territorial Court yesterday, telling Judge Robert Gorin that he wanted a postponement so he could help search for the man who he said is a relative of his. Tsetta will be back in court next Tuesday to set a new date for the trial.
