Christmas games in Pond Inlet ran from Dec. 21 to Jan. 3 this year, and recreation coordinator Mary Simonie still hadn't got her voice back when she spoke with Nunavut News/North late last week.

"Games went every night from 7 p.m. to 3 a.m.," said Simonie, adding the community hall was kept open the entire time with organized games.

Simonie had a committee of seven people working with her, and lots of people attended and participated.

"On the 26th of December we had the community feast," said Simonie.

She estimates more than 200 people attended.

"Before the feast I went around the community to see if anyone could help out. A few people volunteered to cook."

The committee also gave children Christmas presents.

"Half of them were donated from the Northern and half of them were donated from a lady who was here from Newfoundland," said Simonie.

"The kids were happy."

On New Year's Eve, the recreation committee got a bit of a break and some at-home time.

"The community hall was closed until 11 p.m.. It was open from 11 to eight in the morning."

Simonie says every game every game was popular.
