Breakaway Fitness for sale
Century 21 lists business at $379,900

Breakaway Fitness is for sale, but that doesn't mean it's time for members to stop, drop and hide the dumbbells.

Adrian Bell, the broker handling the sale of the business through Century 21, says that if all goes well, gym members shouldn't even really notice.

"It'll be absolutely seamless," he said.

"The vendors have an excellent relationship with their members. They're grateful for the loyalty over the years and it's very important to them that it's seamless. They're going to be very selective in choosing a buyer."

Located on 48 Street, Breakaway Fitness is listed at $379,900. The sale, termed a "share sale" would include the limited corporation and assets, including the lease on the current space which would be assigned to the new owner. Advertised as a "profitable turnkey fitness centre," the sale would include the existing membership base, fitness schedule, massage therapy space, website and use of the business name. Breakaway Fitness is also leasing space to Flavour Trader, a caterer, culinary school and specialty grocery store, in the downstairs portion of the gym. That lease would also be part of the deal.

Bell declined to comment on why the business was up for sale. Owner Kelly Robertson also declined Yellowknifer's request for comment.

"Typically whether it's a house or a building, we can tell you anything you want to know about the business but nothing about the motives of the buyer or seller," said Bell.

However he did say there were several interested parties.

"We've received quite a few inquiries, yes," he said, although he declined to speculate on the seriousness of any of those inquiries.

"It's a profitable business, it has a well established and stable clientele, loyal clientele," he said.

The gym recently advertised to fill both a massage therapist and fitness facilities manager position earlier this month.

The listing for Breakaway Fitness includes that the owners would provide management training and equipment maintenance services for up to six months in order to "ensure a smooth transition."
