Laptops reported stolen
Police say up to a dozen laptops have gone missing from a classroom space at the Tree of Peace Friendship Centre after a break-in last weekend.
The 51 Street building was broken into sometime between Saturday evening and Sunday morning, RCMP stated in a news release Wednesday.
Ten to 12 black Acer computers are missing.
Police are seeking any information about what occurred, either through calling RCMP at 669-1111 or anonymously through Crime Stoppers by calling 1-800-222-8477, visiting nwtnutips.com or via texting nwtnutips to 274637.

Missing teen found
Police say a teenager reported missing earlier this week in the city was found alive and well.
On Wednesday, RCMP issued a news release seeking the public's help to locate 17-year-old Ethan Moses.
Moses was said to have last been seen Monday near the Capitol Theatre downtown.
A subsequent news release Thursday morning stated he had been found.

Free downtown parking
You won't have to feed the meter when parking downtown over the holidays.
The City of Yellowknife is offering free parking in metered stalls from Dec. 22 to 30.
Residents have been asked not to park for extended periods in front of storefronts, however, to provide shoppers places to park. All other parking regulations still apply during the free parking period, including restrictions on hours parking is available on Franklin Avenue.

City gears up for Canada's 150
The city is reminding residents of all the events taking place on New Year's Eve to ring in Canada's 150th anniversary. Celebrations kick off at the Multiplex with a bouncy castle, family skate, Dene handgames, Dene First Nation Drummers and multicultural food at 4 p.m. Music kicks off at 5 p.m. with the Bella Beats followed by the Aurora Ukrainian Dancers and others. Fireworks over Frame Lake, which can be best seen from Somba K'e Civic Plaza beside city hall will begin at about 8:15.

All in for Aleppo
As Christmas approaches, residents in Fort Simpson are reaching out to touch the lives of people across the world.
A fundraiser is being held in Fort Simpson today from 3 to 6 p.m. at the recreation centre to raise money for aid to Aleppo, Syria.
The funds are intended to be donated to a humanitarian relief fund known as The Compassion Collective.
Youth prepare for journey abroad in Canada
Eight Deh Cho youth are preparing to travel with Northern Youth Abroad in 2017.
The organization, which enables youth in Nunavut and the Northwest Territories to spend a summer gaining work and education experience in communities in southern Canada, released its list of participants and alternates for its 2017 Canadian program.
Participants include Sambaa K'e's Aaron Chonkolay, Nahanni Butte's Sydney Hope, Wrigley's Ryett Cli and Fort Liard's Dallas Sassie, as well as Sadeedi Gargan and Sasha Squirrel from Fort Providence, and Delainea Anderson and Allan Menicoche from Fort Simpson.
Eight alternates from the Deh Cho have also been named, including Deanna Jumbo from Sambaa K'e, Angus Capot-Blanc from Fort Liard, Fort Providence's Dana McLeod, Jacob Gargan and Neilson Vandell, and Fort Simpson's Damaris Williams-Guinn, Levi Buboire and Zehro'h Waugh.
GNWT fights against fentanyl
The Department of Health and Social Services announced on Dec. 19 that a treatment for overdoses of opioids such as fentanyl would be available free of charge at all NWT retail pharmacies, effective immediately.
The treatment, known as intranasal naloxone, will be distributed to pharmacies, health centres, clinics, hospitals and health cabins starting Dec. 21.
Voters elect hamlet councillors
A hamlet election in Fort Providence saw four councillors elected to a three-year term. Hilda Sabourin, Evelyn Krutko, Roger Sanderson and Jonas Landry were all elected.
GNWT acquires barge assets
The territorial government has purchased the Northern Transportation Company Limited (NTCL)'s assets for $7.5 million.
NTCL announced it would be seeking creditor protection in April.
GTC granted intervenor status
The Supreme Court of Canada has granted the Gwich'in Tribal Council intervenor status in the Peel Watershed litigation, which is set for hearing March 22.
"This very important area is deeply valued by our people," stated tribal council president and grand chief Bobbie Jo Greenland-Morgan in a news release. "The Peel Watershed and all its wildlife and resources have been the lifeblood of our people since time immemorial."
As intervenor, the GTC will be able to make submissions to assist the court in making its decision on the case, which involves the land use plan for the Peel Watershed.
Bar debate to begin again
Inuvik's town council is set to re-open the Sunday bar debate.
Richard Adams of The Mad Trapper Bar requested the town enact a bylaw to allow Class A lounges to open on Sundays between April 1 and Sept. 30, totalling 26 Sundays.
Currently, Adams is not able to open more than 10 Sundays per year or on Christmas Day or Good Friday.
Council previously turned down a request from Adam for Sunday openings all year.
GNWT purchases assets of NTCL
The GNWT announced last week it has purchased the assets of the Northern Transportation Company Limited for $7.5 million.
The action was taken to protect the petroleum product supply chain for NWT communities along the Mackenzie River and Arctic coast, stated a news release.
"Reliable and dependable barging services are a lifeline for many remote NWT communities and industries that do not have other options for obtaining fuel and others goods economically," the release stated.
"It is the role of government to ensure that essential services are provided to residents and that the costs for providing those services are affordable."
Town, Inuvik Gas to split
The board of directors of Inuvik Gas Ltd. has notified the Town of Inuvik of its intention to terminate the gas distribution franchise agreement between the two effective December 2018.
"While IGL has decided that it is time to conclude its involvement in the distribution of gas in Inuvik, the company remains interested in and supportive of the long-term energy security needs of the families and businesses here in Inuvik," stated a news release from IGL.
Over the next 24 months, IGL will continue to operate its existing gas distribution system and work with the town to ensure an effective transition to a new supplier.
