A pool of frozen blood on the sidewalk of 52 Avenue was the lone indicator of what police call an "altercation" early Saturday that injured two, sending a man on a medevac flight to Edmonton.

RCMP and paramedics were called to a fight involving an unknown number of people outside Bruno's Deli and Pizza at the corner of 52 Avenue and 53 Street around 3 a.m.

The fight left two people injured, police stated in a news release issued Monday. It wasn't clear if they were fighting each other or if others were involved.

"The investigation is ongoing and police are gathering witness and victim statements," stated Marie York-Condon in an e-mail Monday.

She stated no arrests have been made and police have not identified any suspect or suspects.

One of those injured wouldn't co-operate with police.

It wasn't clear if that person was taken to hospital.

The second person injured, a man, was taken by ambulance to Stanton Territorial Hospital and later medevaced south for further treatment.

Dr. Hassan Adam, owner of Adam Dental Clinic, told Yellowknifer he works with the injured man. He said the man's coworkers are hoping he quickly recovers. Adam said he has only heard rumours about what occurred that morning.

RCMP state officers hope to speak to anyone who may have information about what happened. Those with information are asked to contact Yellowknife RCMP at 669-1111 or anonymously through Crime Stoppers by calling 1-800-222-8477, online at nwtnutips.com or by texting NWTNUTIPS plus a message to 274637.
