Remains identified
Human remains found near Dettah last weekend have been positively identified as Mark Lynn, 21, a man who had been reported missing on Aug. 28. Jim Lynn, the man's father, confirmed to Yellowknifer that he had been given a letter by the NWT Chief Coroner's office confirming the remains are that of his son. RCMP also confirmed the identity in a news release. They added that a cause of death has not been determined.

Committee to review election report
The public has been invited to visit the legislative assembly this morning when a committee of MLAs are expected to review a report on the last territorial election.
The standing committee on rules and procedures will review Chief Electoral Officer Nicole Latour's report on the Nov. 19 vote.
Her report contained multiple recommendations to revamp election law and procedures that would require approval by MLAs in the assembly.
The meeting is set to begin at 10:30 a.m. in committee room A.

Submissions sought for art show
Submissions from artists working in any medium are being asked to submit a proposals that could be part of a juried art show in November, according to the city's weekly newsletter.
The City of Yellowknife heritage committee with Yellowknife Artist Run Community Centre is hosting the show at centre's gallery space on 52 Street Nov. 14 to 19.
Proposals are sought for an art piece or installation that interprets the theme of performance in the city.
The deadline for submissions is Sept. 22. More information is on the city's website.

City encourages car free day
City residents who normally drive are being encouraged to park their vehicles and instead walk, bike or take free public transit on Sept. 22 as part of World Car Free Day.
Ecology North, the City of Yellowknife and Department of Environment and Natural Resources are encouraging drivers to hang up their keys that day.

Liquor seized in Fort Liard
What RCMP are calling a large quantity of liquor was seized on Sept. 2 after Fort Liard RCMP stopped a vehicle coming into the Northwest Territories from B.C.
Two women from Fort Liard were subsequently charged with importing excess liquor, states a Sept. 2 news release.
The seizure included 20 bottles containing 1.14 litres of vodka each, one 750-millilitre bottle and four 370-millilitre bottles, one of which the RCMP stated was "over-proof," meaning it has more than 50 per cent alcohol.
Chief and councillor attend special meeting
Liidlii Kue First Nation Chief Gerald Antoine and Coun. Ernest Cazon spent three days in Brandon, Man., from Aug. 30 to Sept. 1 for the Treaties 1-11 Special Meeting to discuss citizens, leadership and the Indian Act.
Hosted by the Assembly of Manitoba Chiefs, some of the discussion topics in the agenda included a presentation from youth, a session on decolonization, empowerment and self-government, and a discussion on sovereignty and self-determination.
Delegates were encouraged to bring sacred staffs, flags, headdresses, sacred bundles and pipes.
Cabinet gets a shuffle
The territorial government announced on Sept. 2 there would be changes to the executive council with some ministerial roles re-assigned.
The Department of Environment and Natural Resources, as well as the Department of Human Resources will now fall under Inuvik Twin Lakes MLA Robert C. McLeod's purview.
Great Slave Lake MLA Glen Abernethy is responsible for the Workers' Safety and Compensation Commission as well as the Public Utilities Board.
The Department of Municipal and Community Affairs will be headed by Range Lake MLA Caroline Cochrane.
Hay River South MLA Wally Schumann is now responsible for the Department of Industry, Tourism and Natural Resources as well as public works.
Thebacha MLA Louis Sebert now oversees the Department of Lands.
Fall board meeting set
The Mackenzie Recreation Association has announced it will be holding its fall board meeting in Yellowknife on Sept. 30 and Oct. 1.
Representatives from the 19 communities that make up the association will gather to provide updates on their community.
Registration for representatives closes Sept. 9.
