RCMP probe sex assault
Yellowknife RCMP is appealing to the public for help as officers investigate a report of a sexual assault early Saturday morning. According to a news release from the Mounties, a 40-year-old woman said she was sexually assaulted about 4 a.m. near the Dettah Ice Road parking lot.
RCMP is now looking for a male who was driving a black pick-up truck, possibly a four-door with bed rails.
It may have out of territory licence plates, possibly Alberta. Police want to hear from anyone who saw anything suspicious near that parking lot or the downtown Quality Inn.

No bail for Denecho King
Denecho King waived his right to a bail review on Monday.
King was in jail awaiting trail on a charge of second degree murder and attempted murder in connection with the death of John Wifladt and assault against Colin Digness, when he escaped custody last month.
A four-day manhunt ended on Aug. 13 when King was arrested in the Sissons Court area. He has not had a bail hearing, and by law he has the right to have his detention order reviewed every 90 days.

Calling all artists
Down to Earth Gallery is calling for artist submissions for its annual Anonymous Art Show and Sale.
Beginner and experienced artists alike can enter by buying canvasses from the gallery and creating art with it.
In the past, participants have used the canvas for painting and drawing but the show is also open non-traditional art.
The deadline for entries is Oct. 17 at 5 p.m.
All the art will be displayed and for sale in the Down to Earth Gallery on Oct. 23.

Yk'ers encouraged to tell their stories
Yellowknife residents with interesting stories to tell about their lives in the city are being encouraged to visit the Tale of a Town storymobile from Sept. 27 to Oct. 1.
The mobile recording studio will be parked on Range Street (50 Street) from 1 to 5 p.m. over those days and interviews will be conducted with business owners, community groups and residents who can reflect on Yellowknife's main street history.

High school officially opens
Naujaat
A host of dignitaries were on hand for the official grand opening of Tuugaalik High School in Naujaat earlier this month.
The day's fanfare included speeches, a school tour, numerous activities and a dinner of tuktu stew prepared by school staff.
Tuugaalik has been open to students since the beginning of the new school semester this past month.
Ottawa agrees to Meadowbank review
Baker Lake
The Nunavut Impact Review Board's decision to require a full environmental review of Agnico Eagle Mines's proposed Whale Tail Pit project has been upheld by the federal government.
The pit is an openpit goldmining operation located about 50 km northwest of Agnico Eagle's Meadowbank gold mine on the land near Baker Lake.
The full review is expected to take upwards of one year to complete.
In making the announcement to support the review board's decision earlier this month, the federal government also stated it would not commit funding to help area residents take part in the review process.
Oil leak forces flight back to Iqaluit
Rankin Inlet
A Canadian North flight headed to Rankin Inlet on Sept. 12 had to return to Iqaluit when members of its discovered the jet was leaking oil.
Canadian North has publicly stated the pilot of Flight 439 followed proper protocol in immediately shutting down the affected engine and returning to Iqaluit when the leak was discovered.
No injuries were reported in the incident.
As of press time, the reason for the oil leak had still not been released by the airline.
Rap album coming
Baker Lake
Baker Lake's own rising rap artist, Christian Tagoona, will soon be releasing an album on iTunes.
The album, North Beast, is expected to be available for download somewhere between late October and early November.
Teens injured in ATV crash
Coral Harbour
Three teenagers were injured when the driver of the ATV they on lost control of the machine and crashed around 8 p.m. on Sept. 14 in Coral Harbour.
The three were treated by what the RCMP described in a press release as nonlife-threatening injuries.
In the course of the RCMP's investigation into the incident, it was revealed none of the three teenagers were wearing helmets when they were ejected from the ATV.
Kind donation
Rankin Inlet
Visiting technology instructor Arnold Villeneuve was please to present Ikurraq Food Bank volunteers with more than $200 in preschooler supplies on behalf of Learning Tree International this past week in Rankin Inlet.

Cadets in fall field training exercise
Naujaat
Twenty cadets from the 3055 RCACC Naujaat participated in a fall field training exercise on the land near Naujaat on Sept. 10.
The cadets learned about edible plants, water collection and filtration methods, as well as how to start a fire, the different types of knots, how to set up a military Arctic bell tent, and how to use a map and compass.
