"I think they're just going to lift off the roof of the Igloo Church," said Marie Coderre, executive and artistic director at the NACC. "It's going to be awesome."

Marcus Mosely, Will Sanders and Khari McClelland make up The Sojourners, who will be bringing their authentic gospel edge to Inuvik as part of a tour of the territory.

It's the type of music that gathers people, said Coderre.

"I try for sure to bring quality and high-skilled artists to Inuvik, as well as the other communities," she said, adding that it's always a gamble. "They will be in for a treat with The Sojourners and they are pretty excited to be touring in Inuvik."

Coderre, who lived in Inuvik from 2007 to 2009, said the community is always thankful and appreciative of the arts shows the NACC brings to town. Plus, it's a unique experience for the artists themselves.

"It's quite something to have established, high-skill artists going to a place like Inuvik," said Coderre. "It's an adventure for them and they are very excited about the cultural experience."

After The Sojourners, the NACC will be bringing a spoken word and musical festival to Inuvik in October, then an internationally acclaimed play in November, followed by a classical jazz performance.

"Each time we go to the community of Inuvik we stop also at the school, so we make sure kids have some exposure," said Coderre. "They are more than welcome to come to the show in the evening but if they don't come at least we come for a short presentation at the school in the morning. It's very important to increase exposure to the arts."

This season, Coderre is hoping families take advantage of the NACC's discount family pack deal and more youth come to the shows.

Tickets for The Sojourners are available online, by phone or at the door.
