Devan Cli, who graduated from Thomas Simpson Secondary School in 2013, is currently completing his final year of a four-year business management diploma at MacEwan University in Edmonton.

As he works on transferring over to the University of Alberta, Cli said the $1,500 scholarship from Dehcho Regional Helicopters comes as a welcome windfall.

"I'm really thankful for the scholarship," he said. "It's definitely a help. That money goes a long way, especially in the later part of the year."

This is Cli's third time receiving the scholarship since it was first established in 2014. According to a news release from Dehcho Regional Helicopters, the company offers two aviation support services scholarships each year, funded by a part of each ticket sale on scheduled Air Tindi flights between Fort Simpson and Yellowknife.

Cli's business education is just beginning. After he finishes his diploma, he plans to enter the bachelor of commerce program at the University of Alberta, majoring in finance.

Ultimately, Cli's goal is to secure a master's degree in business administration, although he has yet to choose a major for that yet.

"I haven't decided yet. I'll figure out my major probably before I go into that in a couple years, and once I graduate I'd like to go back up North and work," he said.

"I'd like to end up working for an aviation company. I think since I'm planning on getting an MBA, it'll have to be something more on the business side."

Dehcho Regional Helicopters president Gladys Norwegian said in the release that the scholarship is meant for youth in the Deh Cho whose goals sometimes extend beyond the piloting and engineering side of the aviation industry.

"(Cli) has shown continued dedication to his studies and we look forward to the day when he returns to the North to begin his career," Norwegian stated.
